Apple iPad MC349LL/A 16gb (Wi-fi + 3g) Review

You are either going to pick this up and love it, or pick it up and wonder what the heck it is.

For me this is a great product. If you have an iphone or an ipod touch you know how to use it, it really is just bigger. Although it's faster and easier to use because the keyboard is larger and there is more screen area to use for applications. i bought the Wifi model initially and loved it then upgraded to the 3G as it allowed me to provide remote support anywhere I went. I put my movies, music, games, RSS readers on it and never looked back. The iPad truly is a great device. I imagine that there may be other brand coming out but in today's marketplace the iPad is the best portable computer I have seen.

Some people say that it has flaws, I have only run into one website that I frequently use that didn't work, and that was CNN. All other sites I visit have changed their video formats over to html5 or other ipad friendly formats. Flash not running on here is really not a big deal for my applications.

This makes a fantastic book reader as well. I've actually read more in the last few weeks with this then I had in the last few years. It makes reading so accessible because no matter where you are if you have a few minutes you can pull up a book, read a chapter and then move on without having to carry a book around.

This is a fantastic product, I can't say enough about it. So why did I give it 4 stars? Because it's a bit heavy, and that's the only reason. But if you consider the battery life in my experience has easily been 10-14 hours without a charge you realize that's why it's heavy. It is so nice being able to have a computer that you can literally use all day without having to turn features off to try to save battery and still not be able to exhaust the battery.

Im just loving the iPad. It eliminated me having to carry my laptop with me everywhere i went. Lightweight and fast! I opted for the 3G which is a feature that i couldn't do without. The ability to be online anywhere i go (almost everywhere i go) makes it easier for me to keep up with emails from work and up to date with the news while im on the train. I would recommend buying a nice case for this. I got one from apple for and it was well worth it. Avoids scratches and gives you a better feel when handling the unit. 16g is plenty for the average user based on research i did online. The 32g and 64g are more the for people that need to download big files and a ton of songs and movies. A good tip would be try not to have all your emails directly on your ipad. Instead try to use a website that links you to your emails. This will avoid you taking up memory with emails saved on your ipad. I have added Skype to my ipad and im able to even make phone calls now. Just wish this came with a camera!! Im sure that will be out in 3 months and i'll just HAVE to buy that too!

Ok Gang: Unlike so many people on Amazon... who summarily trashed the product... and who said they bought one and who promised a review... I actually bought one and am going to lay it out for you guys. First, before you buy anything... you should know your expectations and how you plan on using your purchase. I have a 64GB 3G iPad... that works the way I want it to. I was curious about the state of the Android devices... and to see how this worked... so I bought one. Can one search the web using it? Yes. Can you access your e-mail... yes. Can you play MP3's and video ... Yes (although I am trying to find what formats it plays). There are some basic applications... and in spite of all the bad stuff that I heard... it actually works!

If you are expecting a touch experience like an iPad... you are going to be disappointed. The touch response is adequate... but like my iPad... I don't plan on creating content... just consuming it. You can check web pages, check e-mail... answer a short one... and get a lot of utility out of it. When you first boot it... it took about 70 seconds to come awake. I put a 8 GB MICRO SD card in... and it works great. If you are going to be on a plane... or wanted to listen to music while you are doing something else, then this device is not bad... I don't regret dropping the money on it at all. I am going to do a review on YouTube... then probably pass this on to my brother. He won't mind reading his e-mail sitting next to his wife in front of the TV instead of being changed to his computer on the other side of the room.

The Internet network speed is really pretty good. The MAC address was not listed on a sticker or anything like that. I had to go to my router and look at the log to see what was banging against it. I found it... then added it to my router's permission table. Bazinga! It worked like a charm...handling WPA2 with ease.

People keep saying ... that according to the ALMIGHTY Wikipedia... version of Android 1.7 does not exist. Well, there are a lot of phones out there... running version 1.7... so how does one explain this fact? I doubt that the big name boys pirate Android... so I assume that 1.7 was not a widely available or promoted version. It is pretty stable... and once I get to know my way around... I will be able to put this more to the test. I know this is a knock-off in terms of look and packaging. I don't care. I know that this is not an iPad... but it is a useful device none the less. The speaker is pretty good... does not sound tinny at all. There is a lot of storage on the 8GB card I chose to use... and before I forget... there is a camera. The whole device is not rocket fast...but functional. The cam... took one pic so far... and it was a pretty good one. Just hold it still while it takes it.

I have heard that the "Shop" does not work... have not tried it yet... but heard all the prophets of doom that said it doesn't work, so I was not expecting it to. There has to be a way of saving compatible install files on the memory card and installing them from there. Again.. I have an iPhone and this is my first experience with Android.

LOL... I am listneing to Lola Haag on it right now while I type this on my Mac notebook. My cat is freaking out... because the sound is so clear... he is pawing it around... wondering how the nice music is coming out of something so cool looking.

I've written a review on an item with exactly the same description which I got from Nation's Supply through Amazon at 1. When I click on the product description for that order, I'm sent to this device. So, they're close enough.

Comments:
1. Turn off automatic syncing and you can use WiFi - quite well. If you don't, the device may just crash and restart repeatedly.
2. It's slow - you have to be patient, hit a button once and wait for it to react. If you press repeatedly, it will crash.
3. Use a stylus or pen to press buttons. It's a resistive pad like the old palm devices - either a fingernail or stylus will make things much easier.
4. If you have an Android phone - you're all set. Download items from the Android Market on that, back them up and use the backup on your device as the installer. In that way I've loaded: Kindle, Pandora and several other very useful apps. Google will not, as of yet, license the Android Marketplace (from what I've read) for devices that are not phones. It's much easier to read on a device that's roughly the size of a paperback and you can travel with hundreds of books . . .
5. The included AppStore with this device, is useless.
6. Video works on this device but it's not always smooth. I'm working on this issue. The device has a slow processor.

Summary:
I bought this to run Kindle Reader which it seems to do quite well. The battery drains quickly with active apps and of course when WiFi is on. To read for longer periods of time: turn off wifi, lower screen brightness to a lower level ( I use a battery manager that allows precise adjustment of the brightness - I lower it about 20% from the AC level - still very easy to read.) This will give several hours (measured twice at about 150 minutes, reading only). This is not an iPAD rival but it is a useful device that you can buy for 0 bucks to use as an ereader and an email device (with WiFi) - music playback is fine but the more apps you're running - the faster the battery drains and the more likely the device is to crash and restart.

Until the REAL Android tablets come out with Froyo or beyond - this is a useful stop-gap.

Simply, it does everything its supposed to do...just very very poorly. Touch pad - poor. Battery life - poor. Wifi range - very very poor. I am actually trying to restore it right now to factory settings and wipe my information clean from it...and its giving me a very hard time. It wont stay on, even though it is plugged in. This device is a bad joke.

it works but the case broke - bvanevery -
Generally, this DC charger works in my car. However, if my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop goes into "emergency shutdown" because I've drained too much battery power, and then I try to charge it with this DC adapter, it doesn't charge. I don't have this problem with my AC power brick, so I am inclined to think it is the fault of this DC adapter. Workarounds: (1) don't let the laptop get so low that it goes to "emergency shutdown," or (2) plug it into the DC adapter, power up the laptop, then close the laptop lid. This gets the laptop out of the "emergency shutdown" state and allows charging to proceed normally. These workarounds are acceptable in real world use. I just find it annoying that I had to figure it out. Things should just work; that's why I bought a Dell-specific DC charger.

The plastic case came apart. One half of the housing has plastic screw posts, for the other part of the housing to screw into. These plastic screw posts simply separated from the screws. As an immediate remedy I wrapped the velcro cord holder around the case, to hold it together. In the future I will probably duct tape it. I am doing a lot of camping right now and am traveling most of the time. I don't have time to return it for a new one.

I would steer people towards a competing Dell-specific PA10 DC charger, if I knew of one, but I don't. This seems to be the only game in town. The alternative is to use a DC-AC power inverter and a standard AC power brick. Theoretically this wastes electricity compared to a straight DC connection. In practice, my laptop charges at a rate of ~40W while the laptop is open and running, using the DC adapter. An AC adapter also charges at ~40W, when running. I'm not sure of either case when it's turned off. I don't know how much power it's drawing, and then wasting, to achieve that 40W of charge. A fully charged car battery is 12.75V but diminishes as it discharges. The charger draws a max of 5.6A according to the label on the back. So, waving hands and blowing off non-linearity, it could be drawing 12.75V * 5.6A = 71.4W to achieve 40W of charge. That would not be a terribly efficient charging scheme, although I don't know what it actually does, or if the rate of charge is > 40W when the laptop is turned off. If this DC charger goes belly up for any reason, I will try a power inverter and a standard AC brick next time.

In a camping context, wasting electricity actually matters. I recently bought an Odyssey deep cycle battery to replace my standard car battery. That way, I can camp for a few days and not drive anywhere, instead of having to drive around to recharge my laptop. Standard car batteries are not designed to be drained much; you will kill them quickly if you charge while you're not driving. At 40W it takes ~2 hours to charge my 9-cell 73000mWh laptop battery. If I have to drive around to do that, that's a lot of gas, and a fairly expensive way to get electricity on the road. I'm planning on doing entire 8..10 hour work days of computer programming while on the road, not just a little bit of laptop here and there. With the deep cycle battery I may only have to drive 20 minutes to recharge the car battery, because big fat cables run from the alternator to the battery, instead of little wimpy DC cigarette lighter outputs. Then I have 2 days worth of electricity and I can just plug my laptop in to recharge whenever I want, I don't have to be driving. Driving 20 minutes every 2 days makes a lot more sense for generating electricity.

Where to start? I dont know what this device is but its not just a netbook. It has the power and speed to act as a notebook. It has a near-full size keyboard. Its screen swivels and then turns into a touchscreen kindle-like device. It has the speed to run Windows 7 Professional (you have to pay extra to upgrade from starter). It is fast enough to play full motion DVD video over its wireless N from my Windows Media Center. It can do touch screen with your finger or stylus. Its touchpad has multiple finger actions. You can change from landscape to portrait.

There is a slight hesitation in the CPU when tasked but for the size, cost and intention, the hardware is fast and well suited. I can run Slingbox video streaming while multi-tasking and surfing the Internet. There is a limitation in the video card. It cant run DirectvtoPC or play BluRay video. Its not powerful enough. But so far that is the only limitation I have found. I am not a PC gamer so I dont know if this can handle games but pushing streaming wireless video is pretty intensive.

I thought about getting the iPad but didnt want the restrictions that come with it. I have an iPhone and love the user navigation. It is well thought out and made for non-techie users. This device is not as intuitive but is more powerful, more flexible and can do everything a PC and netbook can do without the size and bulk. The extra size battery is great for additional battery life but does add to some weight and size. One advantage, it acts a handle when running this in portrait touchscreen mode.

Overall this is a well designed, feature rich powerful netbook/notebook/touchscreen/iBook device. I havent tested everything yet but thats part of the appeal for this device. It has a built in camera, SD card slots and VGA hookup I havent tried yet. I highly recommend this device for folks that want it all. And its been extremely stable with full driver support in Windows 7. Kudos Gigabyte.

Better off with an iPad - askCRM - Charlotte, NC
I purchased this Tablet Netbook when I saw that Microsoft had cancelled the netbook that they were working on. I had heard that netbooks were running pretty fast on Windows 7, and I was encouraged by the reviews I had read on this item. My hopes were to: (1) Have a small PC that would be easier to use while traveling, especially on airplanes or on vacations when I only needed to get to email, (2) Use this in meetings to take notes with OneNote (an app that I grew to love many years ago with some older tablets - but they had been too bulky to make using OneNote's handwriting practical), (3) use this as my personal PC (replacing my rarely used MacBook) to store music (iTunes), photos and other personal files, (4) still be able to use all of my Microsoft desktop apps, as well as the Internet explorer browser to get to some web apps that required internet explorer.

This PC was a letdown in almost all of those categories. Here are some of the highs and lows:

Keyboard: The keyboard is a pretty good sized for such a small machine. However, they've made a few decisions about placement of keys (such as the "/" key) that has forced me to spend a lot of time correcting typos. I'll probably get used to that so, overall, the keyboard is "good".

Mouse: The mouse seems similar to most tablet PCs - but I find it very awkward to use (even more awkward than mice that are typically included on laptop PCs).

Screen: The screen could probably be 20% larger. When you open thnis machine, you immediately see a broad border around the screen. The screen surface is also highly reflective - I can't write on the tablet with it lying flat because I see too much light reflection in the screen - so I have to prop up the machine with something. The resolution is very good for a screen this size. Unfortunately, this also means that it is cramming a lot of resolution into a very small screen - fonts are sometimes very difficult for me to read (if you're under 40 and/or have good vision, this may not be a problem for you).

Tablet: The big reason I purchased this machine was because it was a tablet - I could write directly on the screen. However, this screen is sensitive to both touch and to pen input. So, if you rest your hand on the screen while writing, it doesn't work. It appears that the touch capability was intended to make this "ipad like" - where you can click on icons without having to use the mouse or keyboard. Unfortunately, this capability of of very limited utility - the handwriting would be a much better capability (in my opinion), but it is almost useless for the handwriting because of this limitation. I give the tablet screen two stars.

Speed: For the most part, this little machine is speedy enough for most needs. I can use Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint without a hitch (although the screen and mouse problems negate much of this usefulness). However, one of the main reasons I purchased this was to be able to store my music and, on occasion, listen to the music directly off of this machine. When I try to play my iTunes music, there are many "slowdowns" in the music - it's tolerable, but very annoying (especially since my phone can play music more smoothly than this device!)

I sure would like to find a netbook that addresses these issues (or even a low end laptop PC). I believe there is a market out there for individuals who want to stay productive in a Windows environment, but with a very small form factor and tablet capabilities. Sadly, this device falls far short of my expectations for this.

I have an iPhone 3G so when I saw the iPad I thought this is something I would like to have. But I didn't like the fact
that I had no access to Flash. Although Apple has execellent resolution on their products I wanted something more than a glorified pad. So I started looking for touch pads but I wanted Internet access and the ability to run my office programs.

I live in Japan and I wanted my manuals and OS in English. PC Micro Store did not want to ship it to Japan and cancelled my order.
And I would have given less stars, but I had it shipped to FBC USA INC,Gardenia, California in which it was delivered to me in Japan and it only took 3 days to get to my door just outside of Tokyo.

I was a bit apprehensive knowing I was taking a big chance that the product might not be what I expected. The surprise was it lived up to my expectations and more. I ordered the ram upgrade but I intend to go with Windows 7 Ultimate since I need access to the Japanese language having some Japanese software. I was also thinking SSD. No moving parts better battery and hardly any heat from this hard drive.

The resolution is great if not excellent. The sound with headsets is a great joy I think real stereo. There is a bit of a learning curve for the touch screen. Battery life is 5-6 hours if you have proper power management. You really can't go wrong with this TouchNote and the Gigabyte site is pretty comprehensive. I really like this product and I like the brown color which I think is a touch of class. (With battery attached 8in wide 10.5" long and 1.5" thick about 3lbs) The best feature is being able to upgrade memory and hard drive.

I have had the TouchNote for a couple of weeks. It is everything I had hoped for. The screen is good (but not as crisp and clear as my MacBook). It runs app quite well. I really wanted this thing for the touch screen capabilities and these are awesome. I can use the paint tool in Corel Photopaint and it is much better than using a mouse or a touchpad device like Wacom Bamboo. It is like you are really painting. I find myself intuitively clicking with the touch screen rather than the mouse. I thought I would mount a stylus because they are very useful when the pointing has to be more precise than a finger affords. Then I noticed there was one built in. The notebook is very light and the battery lasts forever. There are some built-in apps that are very useful, e.g., an on screen keyboard (for when you have the keyboard folded under for use as a tablet) and a rotator that changes the screen from portrait to Kindle-like landscape. I plan to use this for travel and for image analysis. It is so much easier to draw an ROI directly on an image, rather than using a mouse or external pad. This is a great computer and may see more use than my MacBook. The MacBook overall is nicer, but it doesn't have a touch screen, and is heavier. I was hoping the iPad would be more of a computer than it is. Once I saw how limited it is, I got the TouchNote. 5 STARS baby!

The best thing I like about this jacket is the four adjustable angle settings. It works in your lap while sitting in a chair, on a desk in front of you, or while laying in bed reading a book. It is plastic, not leather, but well made none the less. If dropped it has iPad protection except for two outer corners that are somewhat exposed. I have found no use for the elastic strap but it does look nice to me. The price is right and if I had to do it all over again this is the jacket I would buy.

By the way, I like the idea of the "Amazon Verified Purchase" on reviews, which this was. I see too many reviews where the writers waste everyones time as they comment on items they do not own.

Bamboo Fun (Medium) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software Review

This is my first tablet, so I can't really compare it to others, but it's worked great for almost everything I've tried it with. The Corel painter software it comes with is actually really fun, and shows off the tablet's capabilities nicely. It works well in zbrush, and the pressure sensitivity and accuracy make an indescribable difference in modeling and sculpting. Web browsing is a bit more finicky (clicking and double clicking really take some getting used to). Overall, it took me three or four hours of use to be able to use it effectively, but now that I can it's very easy and efficient. It's nice that both the eraser and the pen tip are pressure sensitive. The texture of the work area takes some getting used to as well; for the first while it felt like I was in danger of scratching it by pressing too hard, but it's turned out to be pretty durable. Definitely recommended for anyone into digital art or computer graphics! Also, the size is perfect for my needs, although it could be a bit smaller without interfering too much.

ESSENTIAL Tool for the digital artist - Sarah Knott - Southeast USA
This pad is perfect for a beginning/intermediate digital artist. It has twice the pressure sensitivity from my last Sapphire wacom & although the nibs are a replacement cost, the sensitivity really makes up for it. If this is an upgrade or replacement, it is really worth it for the price. However, I would also consider the touch pads as it eliminates the need for a mouse & you only use gestures.

Downside: there is no place to store your pen with the tablet. Also, store the pen upright in the holder that comes with it as the sensors in the stylus will somehow "wear out" if stored horizontally (per Wacom customer service)

I wish it came with a carrying case!

Asus Eee PC T101MT-EU17-BK 10.1-Inch Convertible Tablet (Black) Review

First Impressions
I am very impressed with this tablet netbook. Right out of the box, my first impressions of its chassis is that it is very sexy. Let me elaborate on that. The casing material is made out of an anti-fingerprint matte material. This includes the palm rest and the keyboard. The screen bezel is still made out of the same glossy material as the previous ASUS netbooks. I like the brushed white strip design on the back of the screen- it certainly adds to the design.

Upgraded
As with many users here, I agree that to enjoy this netbook, as well as to unlock its full potential, one must do a couple of upgrades. I added a Corsair Memory VS1GSDS800D2 1 GB PC2-6400 800Mhz 200-pin DDR2 Laptop Memory Kit. The RAM upgrade really helps with the system's responsiveness (including inking) and multitasking capability. Besides the RAM, I also installed a copy of Windows 7 ultimate. Home Premium and up will unlock the multi-touch capabilities of the touchscreen. As you read this, treat each and every one of my findings as based on this upgraded version.

I'd like to add this to those who are interested in hard drive upgrades. I will make a video of this next month, but for now, here's what I know based tinkering. The hard drive bay is right under the keyboard. The keyboard is removed by inserting a small pin or precision screwdriver into 4 mini holes and lifting the keyboard unit up. There is a small sticker that says it will void warranty if removed. After removing a number of screws, the hard drive is exposed. I will be adding an SSD (or maybe an SSD hybrid) next month and will update you on this. Besides the limitation of the Atom CPU, the stock hard drive is what really provides the slightly slow program loads.

Keyboard
The keys are tremendously pleasant to type on. ASUS used the same keyboard type as the Eee PC 1201N- island chiclet keys. If you are used to keyboards without any space in between, it will take a few hours to get used to this, but as any of my friends who tried it, you will eventually come to like its spacing, as it prevents typo on this limited space. What I personally like is that this time around, ASUS placed a second Function key (one next to the left CTRL key and another under the Enter key on the far right). This allows users to use one hand to set the volume level, as well as reach other keyboard functions that are placed on the right side of the keyboard. Note: I just wanted to throw this out there- out of many netbooks I've used, I still believe the very best, in terms of ergonomics and feel, is the HP Mini 311's.

Touchscreen
The special attraction that makes this netbook unique is its touchscreen feature. The resistive touchscreen has two touch points which gives users the best of both resistive and capacitve worlds. Let me explain this, resistive screen allows users to use a stylus pen or any sharp-pointed object (like a fingernail's tip) to write on and control the smallest details on the screen. So you can literally draw and write, with the system being able to detect your strokes.

Although, this does not compare against a capacitive screen's WACOM digitizer pen, which as the name suggests, uses digital inputting and will not only read each stroke but also the users' pen pressure. But the advantage of resistive over capacitive is that, capacitive requires a special stylus or a digitizer pen to be able to do any inking. iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch all uses capacitive screens. If you have one of these devices, you will notice that it requires your finger to control the screen and will not read any stylus or fingernail strokes.

Now, with the T101MT netbook, the two touch points allow users to switch from Pen mode to Finger mode. Think of the Finger mode as imitating a capacitive screen. It uses two touch points (where Penmode uses one) and allows users to do what capacitive screens can do: multi-touch, pinching, expanding, two finger scroll.

Screen Quality
Some reviewers are claiming that this has a grainy look. I would like to add that although it does have this look (which all touchscreens have), it is quite unnoticeable unless you really put your face on the screen. I'd hate to keep bringing the Apple devices up, but to compare the graininess, the T101MT looks way less grainy than the iTouches.

Another quality I like is that this netvertible has a matte screen. It will still attract skin oil but it resists finger prints. The included stylus has a rounded tip which glides on the screen- it will not scratch your screen at all. I won't be the only one using this netvertible so I decided to protect it anyway. I placed a AG2 Anti-Glare Screen Protector for 10.1" Widescreen Netbooks on the screen. This screen protector will NOT alter the screen's quality, brightness, or touch sensitivity. It also comes with a microfiber cloth to clean the screen, really useful.

Speakers
The speakers are placed under the palm rests, on the front of the netbook. The sound is acceptable for such a small unit. It is not tinny at all. It's loud but not booming.

Battery
I get about 4-5 hours of use per battery charge, always on Windows 7 High Performance mode (not to be confused with ASUS Super Hybrid Engine). My tasks, though, are pretty inconsistent- sometimes I'm writing on my blog, or watching videos, or web browsing, or playing 2D games, but these numbers are the average amount of hours I get. Balanced mode will surely add an hour or two, depending on the tasks.

I'd also like to add that doing some CPU-taxing tasks, like streaming videos and playing games, will require me to use the Super Performance Mode of the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine, which brings me to CPU usage.

CPU Capability
This is a netbook. Once you accept its capabilities, you will like it. If you require more computing and graphics power on a tablet notebook, look into the HP TM2T series which uses CULV/Core i UM CPUs and optional discrete graphics, but at double the costs. There are certainly more "higher-end" netbooks around, like the ones with the Nvidia ION GPU and even the Alienware M11X, but these have a different focus and lack touchscreen features. You are getting the T101MT for its touchscreen feature in a netbook size, that's the bottom line.

Having said all that, the T101MT's Atom N450 runs at 1.6Ghz and is snappy for a netbook, but watching videos, it helps to run it on 1.85Ghz by using the Super Performance Mode of the ASUS S.H.E. To match the screen's resolution of 1024x600 and to alleviate the CPU's capability, it is best to watch lower resolution videos and switching it to full screen. I streamed a Simpsons episode on Hulu using 288p and running it at full screen without any lag. It will lag on 360p. But on Youtube, fullscreen 360p will not lag, anything higher will. As for videos on your hard drive, it is best to convert them to widescreen 480p. That's 720 pixels horizontal and 480 pixels vertical. Since the physical size of the screen isn't that big to begin with, you will not notice much quality difference from a 480p video to an hd video. It's also worth adding that it cannot decode 720p videos, it will stutter and chug.

Gaming
Getting this netbook brought me back some nostalgic moments. By this, I mean I dug up old copies of 2D and less intensive 3D games in storage. I installed some point and click games to take advantage of the touchscreen. This includes a bunch of Dash games for my girlfriend. We both enjoy Plants VS Zombies. I also installed games for casual gaming, like classic strategy games such as Warcraft III, Age of Empire, and even my dilapidated copy of StarCraft. Adventure games like Space Quest series, Syberia, The Longest Journey, Tales/Secret of Monkey Island and the Broken Sword series are also installed and run flawlessly. Some 2D casual, mystery, clue-finder games made by PopCap Games are fun on-the-go. There are still some gaming gems in the late 90s and early 2Ks that will run on this system. Like I said, once you accept and understand its full capabilities, this goes for any netbook, you can proceed to install the right software and have some fun.

ExpressGate
This is a nice addition for emergency internet use, in my opinion. Although it is a fast Splashtop, I generally do not use it, because Windows 7's loadtime does not bother me.

Requires tweaking - Vin -
I purchased this tablet netbook (instead of a regular netbook/laptop/or tablet like the iPad) mainly for its physical keyboard, small portability (as opposed to a bigger heavier laptop) and taking notes in class using "Microsoft Onenote 2010." I strongly do not recommend using the built-in mic to record because you can hear yourself type and write, I recommend a USB mic.

Lenevo has a similar product and is priced competitvely with the ASUS (almost a perfect substitute, Lenevo has more advertised battery life), but I stuck with ASUS for personal preference, and I just thought it looked better.

I do not recommend this for people who are not computer savvy because to get it all to run smoothly requires some tweaking. I had to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit. You can not install Windows 7 64-bit. I also had to install another stick of ram. Get the 1GB SO DIMM 200-Pin DDR II 667, you can only have a max of 2GB. I'd change out the drive to Solid-State Drive, but will void out the warranty, check out the forums to see how. The tablet pen and touch settings also require you to tweak settings to get it to work right for you, I'm still trying to figure out what works for me.

Considering whats currently on the market, I thought this was the best choice for me. If you can wait until late 2010, then wait.

This small netbook is everything I wanted in a computer for travel and meetings without spending over 0. Upgrade to Windows 7 is essential and I had to actually read some of the manual to work the pen and touchscreen correctly but I could not be happier!

The 1 GB of Ram is plenty for everyday tasks for work - email, spreadsheets, word processing.

Great Tablet Netbook! Warning about Upgrade! - E. Sung -
So I've had this little puppy for about two weeks now and have really enjoyed using it. The interface for Windows Home Premium (must upgrade for ~) is quite nice. I was surprised by how little I actually type on a regular basis, surfing the web requires very little input. I prefer the built in windows touchscreen keypad to the Asus's software version.

So basically what the other reviewers have said is pretty accurate. I just want to add a note about upgrading.

RAM Upgrade:
RAM upgrading is very easy. I bought a 1 gig kingston laptop memory and installed it. You must go into the bios and turn boot booster to disabled before your system will recognize the new memory. (1 gig is the max upgrade.)

Hard Drive Upgrade:
Do not do it! That is the best advice I can give anyone. I bought a larger hard drive to upgrade my system but after taking out about 30 screws, taking out the keyboard, and popping most of the edges around the netbook, I could not get the back of the netbook to pry apart. I have taken apart many laptops before and installed many hard drives but this netbook is nearly impossible. I damaged some of the plastic around my netbook and I tried physically prying the edges apart up until I thought the case would crack. No luck in getting the case to open. I tried for two hours and took out every screw I could find, including two hidden under the screen's swivel base.

I have heard from other people that upgrading the hard drive is difficult and that a professional would be advised. I think "difficult" is an extreme understatement. I would give up on the upgrading the hard drive unless I was prepared for a 25% chance of damaging the computer. In the end, it was not worth it to me to possibly crack the case just to add a few gigs of space.

Overall I like the touch tablet quite a bit though.

Wacom Bamboo Fun Review

I got this for my 11-year-old daughter who likes to draw and cartoon and erases alot. The large size is really large! It's not very portable and takes up a lot of space on her desk, but we were afraid that the small would be too cramped...probably would have been fine. She was able to install and set up the whole thing herself. She watched the tutorials and found them adequate. It is installed on an old laptop with windows XP and we don't have any fancy graphics software...just what came with the tablet and some freeware. As other people said, the touch function isn't great and I find her using her mouse to move around even though you COULD do it on the touch pad. The pen seems very sensitive. The eraser is a must have feature. It takes a while to get used to the drawing scale (ie in relation to the computer screen), but for the most part it was plug and go. All in all, fun, easy, no problems yet...I'd say best value for my money that I've had in a long time.

Lower your expectations and you'll be fine - C. Moore - Hawaii
I've owned a pen-only Wacom tablet before and I think they make good products, but if you get this one you should be aware of several points that I didn't figure out until I started using this one, although, to be fair, there were indications to some problems on the web, I just sort of flaked in my research.

1)The Draw: The drawing and pen functions with the pad are terrific, and unless you're used to high-end tablets, this will probably be fine for you, although the surface is rougher than the older, pen-only tablets and I suspect will wear out nibs fairly quickly. They supply you with three extras.

2)The Touch: While the touch on this, even the "tap to click" works pretty well, I'm not able to use it full time as my interface -- I still use a Logitech track ball. If you're used to one of the glass touchpads on a Macbook or Macbook pro, this will seem a bit sluggish, but if you're used to the trackpad supplied with many netbooks (Like my Dell mini)this thing will be a revelation. Overall it's nice.(There are scrolling issues, see below.) The mouse buttons have a nice, smooth feel, too. Not too clicky, but not so soft you don't know you're pushing them. Mind you, this is after just two days of use. I have no idea about the durability.

3)The Size: This is the larger of the Bamboo Fun tablets. While it should have been blindingly obvious, I suppose, that this was going to be big, it really does take up a lot of room on the desktop. To use it as a touch interface, it's really more than you need. There may people who need the extra space for graphics, but for day-to-day use, the smaller Bamboo Fun or Bamboo Craft touch/pen would have been fine. I'm working on two, 24 inch monitors and this is still way more space than I need. This is about the size of a 13inch laptop, so unless you have room for something that size on your desk all the time, in addition to your keyboard, the smaller Bamboo might be the way to go.

4)The Scroll: The two-fingered scroll function works great until it doesn't. I kept getting a lock up after a couple of swipes in Firefox 3.6, and even my trackball's scrolling would lock for fifteen seconds or so after it locked. This was fixed by turning off the auto-scroll and smooth-scrolling IN FIREFOX. That said, I found that solution in a forum where many people had reported scrolling problems and this fix didn't work for all of them. They also reported similar issues in Photoshop CS2 & CS3 as well. I'm using this with a Mac Pro 2x Xenon processor with 8GB ram, but people with Windows machines reported the problem as well. Wacom didn't seem to address it on their web page other than to respond to users that it, more or less, was the user's fault. I haven't tried it with Photoshop yet, but it seems to work fine in Painter and Art Rage Studio Pro, and I haven't had any scroll problems with the pen, only the touch functions. Your mileage may vary, but I'd be wary of expecting to use this as your only interface until you see a lot of "fixes" reported on the web.

5)The Design: It looks very spiffy, especially if you like the brushed-aluminum look and feel. It's substantial, too - heavy enough to stay in place on the desk. There's a loop for the pen to go into, which is a nice addition my earlier Wacom didn't have. (I use stick-on Velcro to keep the pen attached to that one.)As other's have said, though, the USB cable is permanently attached to the tablet instead of plugging in with a mini-USB plug, as earlier models did. This could become a durability problem if you travel with the tablet a lot, as the connection point isn't very heavily reinforced.

6)In Conclusion: You are more or less in a one-player game. For the price, you can't really get a pen pad with touch from anyone except Wacom, and if this is your first tablet, again, I think you'll probably love it, but do look at the smaller touch/pen tablet first, maybe save yourself some cash, and expect to keep your mouse around for a while, at least, until you iron out any touch navigation problems that you may have with your particular applications.

As a graphic designer / illustrator I've used a Wacom tablet for years and I'm very happy with the product. After invasive hand surgery I've been forced
to consider options other than a mouse or track ball for selecting and manipulating items on monitor, so when I saw your product online it looked like the
perfect alternative to point and click. I enjoy using gestures on my Bamboo tablet and find it to be more ergonomically efficient than using a mouse.
My only regret is that at least one of the commands will only work with Adobe CS4 and later. Also, it would be great if there was a hybrid tablet for professional illustrator / designers with a touch feature.

Leather Carrying Case Cover/Folio With Built-in Stand for Apple iPad 3G tablet / Wifi model 16GB, 32GB, 64GB (BLACK) Review

when I got my new Ipad I was quick to find a protective and functional cover for it.

I purchased one of these and also a more expensive one.

In comparison, both actually work about the same. this one is black and the other red and maybe a little better quality leather. that's it though.

the price on this one is very good.

I had no problem with the Ipad slipping or falling out as was mentioned in other reviews. they put a little corner band in one corner and that seems to have solved the problem. even if not, a little velcro, 2 sided tape or whatever would be an easy and acceptable fix.

it works well, protects my Ipad and allows various positions for viewing, which is handy.

I would definitely recommend this case and I personally would buy it again.

Can't Get Much Better - 91Camero -
I love this case. For the money it's almost perfect. It has everything I was looking for except a handheld strap on the back. I love the multi-positioning of the easle back and use it frequently since I keep my knitting patterns on mt iPad. The cover leaves the ports available for use which is an added bonus. I highly recommended this product.

The case is of medium quality but of excellent value for the money. It is very functional and does the job very well. Little bulky and not easy to carry around. Overall, good value for the price.

i was tired of waiting for the Apple cases to be restocked so i bought this - while the craftsmanship is kind of shotty, i absolutely love it. theres a slight padding/protective layer - the stand works well enough that i've never had it accidentally collapse on me (or any student i've worked with) and there are magnets in the case to help keep flaps from flying away. for the price, i can't imagine you could find any better

I bought this phone set and two additional add-on phones. We have a phone in more places than before! I like that you only have to plug the add-on phones into a power outlet - they don't need a phone line. The speaker feature is loud & clear, nice! The only thing - there's no answering machine. I guess I missed that in the description - I was looking for an expandable phone with speaker. Got that but no answering machine. AT&T Call Notes is way to expensive to add to local service ( a month). Now I have to get an answering machine. Oh well!

Used this phone (and several stand-alone extensions) to replace an aging small business phone system. I really like that when you input a phone number into one phone the number is available in all extensions immediately so you don't have to program each phone. I also like that only the base has to be connected to the phone line and all the extensions just connect wirelessly. What I don't like is there is no different ring available for the intercom. Range of the system is really good and clear.

Prompt delivery, works as stated. For a cheap phone this works fine. I am using it with my Ooma "Free phone service over the internet". Sound quality is good. Can't tell the difference between a regular land line and VOiP.

Don't waste your time with this stylus. I bought hoping to use the penultimate app on my iPad for note taking. Very annoying. It drags on the screen and is worthless for writing. All it does well is tap. You can use your finger for that.

Sticky Tip Doesn't Glide - S. Barnes -
The idea is great and there are many applications that benefit from the control a stylus can provide, unfortunately, this is not the answer. The wedge shaped tip must be oriented one way and one way only; not something I am not good at. More important, the soft plastic tip sticks to the iPad better than a tennis shoe on a basketball court.
